KOBELCO Construction Machinery Europe BV (KCME) announces a planned leadership transition. After more than a decade of leadership, Mr. Makoto Kato has completed his tenure as KCME’s Managing Director and Excavator Division Director, with Mr. Takemichi Hirakawa assuming the position effective January 1, 2026.

Under Mr. Kato’s leadership, KCME has experienced significant growth and success, reaching new milestones, with most recently the move to a purpose built new Headquarters and Tech Center in Lelystad. His dedication, vision, and commitment to excellence have played a pivotal role in elevating the KCME business to new heights. As the founder of KCME in Europe, he leaves a lasting legacy to KCME’s employees, dealer network and partners. 

“It has been a true privilege to lead the company for the past 13 years,” said Makoto Kato. “Together, we have built the presence of the brand in Europe from the ground up, laying a robust foundation for sustainable growth that will further strengthen KOBELCO’s position as one of the leading brands in the industry.”

The appointment of Mr. Takemichi Hirakawa as the new Managing Director for the European region has taken effect per January 1, 2026. Before joining KCME in July this year, Mr. Hirakawa held a position as Managing Director and CEO at KOBELCO Construction Equipment India Pvt. Ltd.
