Automatic waste sorting plant in Tolentino

Following the award of the contract announced by COSMARI, PAL is finalising the   turn-key project to develop a new plant at the Tolentino site for the sorting of  paper/cardboard and light multi-material fractions of urban waste of the province of Macerata.

The sorting line is designed to be able to manage the different materials by working on lots and must treat up to 7.0t/h of plastic/light multi-material, or 8.0 t/h of paper/cardboard.

The plant is expected to operate over two daily 8-hour shifts, guaranteeing a total treatment capacity of up to a maximum of 30,000 t/year, of which approximately 13,000 of multi material and 17,000 of paper-based  material. To achieve that objective, the following main equipment is provided, among other things:

• 1 Bag tearing equipment

• 2 Magnetic separators

• 2 Induced current separators

• 3 Optical sorters

• 2 Rotating drum screens

• 1 Double-stage ballistic screen

• 2 Sorting cabins

• 1 Baling press

• 40 Conveyors

• 130 ton of steel  structures

The contract also includes the supply of all transport connections between the various machines, the mechanical installation, the supply and installation of the panels and the wiring on the machine, the suction system. The production process for both types of mate- rial will take place in the same production area where the collections of both paper materials and plastics will be stored.

The objective of the Principal is the selection of such materials for their subsequent delivery to CO.RE.PLA. consortia (plastic) and COMIECO consortia (cardboard). The recovery will also concern any additional materials resulting from the sorting process: paper, tetrapack, ferrous metal materials, non-ferrous metal materials, any other fractions.

Plastic multi-material

1 Removal from the ground of bulky material and feeding of the same to the bag tearing machine.

2 Sorting through rotating screen of the fractions: small (Φ < 100 mm), medium (100 mm < Φ < 300 mm) and bulky (Φ > 300 mm).

3 Small fraction sorting: removal of ferrous materials by means of a magnet, suction of light bodies, further screening by a second rotating screen, removal of non-ferrous metals by eddy current separator, sorting of plastics by optical reader.

4 Sorting of medium fractions: suction of light bodies, separation of rolling and flat materials by ballistic sieve, removal of non-ferrous metals by eddy current separator, sorting of plastics, PET / PE by means of two optical readers.

5 Manual selection of bulky fraction and quality control.
