CAMEC Iberica: Italian Technology, Spanish Soul
From Veneto to conquering the Iberian Peninsula, CAMEC transforms environmental challenges into customized solutions.
Recycling Industry met with Barbara Lombardo, Sales Director of CAMEC srl and CEO of CAMEC Iberica, who explained the evolution of a company that has made customization and customer service the heart of its international expansion, with the Iberian division as a bridgehead to the Spanish, Portuguese, and South American markets.
Founded in 1993 by Eddy Candiotto, CAMEC was ahead of its time, understanding the strategic importance of recycling when the sector was still in its infancy. Thirty years later, that insight has transformed into a precise industrial model: each machine, each system is born from a specific project, tailored to the material, the process, and the result the customer needs to achieve. A single point of contact oversees the entire process—from the initial technical analysis to after-sales support—and every order becomes an opportunity for development: products evolve because each project presents challenges that the previous one didn't. It's this applied and concrete R&D that has made CAMEC a benchmark in the industry, and the same philosophy that today guides the international development of the Iberian division. We explored these issues with Barbara Lombardo, CEO of CAMEC Iberica, to understand how it has become the cornerstone of the group's growth strategies.
From June 9th to 11th, the company will be present at the SRR trade fair at IFEMA in Madrid: a key event for consolidating long-standing partners, forging new contacts, and demonstrating CAMEC's waste treatment solutions.
Recycling Industry: Let's start from the beginning: how has CAMEC evolved, and what role does innovation play in your organization today?
Barbara Lombardo: "CAMEC was founded in 1993 with a clear vision of the future importance of recycling. Today, every machine and every system we build is the result of a specific project: built around the material, the process, and the result the customer needs to achieve. We manage the entire process, from turnkey supply to feasibility studies, from 3D simulations to revamping, all the way to after-sales support—all managed by a single point of contact. It's this approach that over the years has allowed us to define increasingly precise strategies to penetrate new markets."
Recycling Industry: In this international scenario, CAMEC Iberica seems to occupy a place of honor. Why did you decide to focus so strongly on Spain?
Barbara Lombardo: "CAMEC Iberica was founded a few years ago to meet the needs of a market that we feel is very close to the Italian one in terms of culture and mentality. Spain is of growing strategic importance for our Italian parent company; it's a vast territory that is providing us with great satisfaction. We established our sales headquarters there to serve not only the Spanish market, but also the Portuguese one, which, despite its small size, provides us with top-quality references with strategic plants and customers."
Recycling Industry: What is the secret to your success in such competitive markets as Spain and Latin America?
Barbara Lombardo: "We are bringing to Spain and Portugal the philosophy that has always distinguished us: we don't offer standard products, but rather we start from the customer's specific needs to create completely customized and tailor-made solutions. The customer is at the center of everything. In addition to technology, we offer the "MyCamec" scheduled maintenance package, a strategic service that allows us to support our customers over time, rewarding their trust."
Recycling Industry: Looking beyond the Iberian Peninsula, what are your next goals and how do they fit into your long-term vision?
Barbara Lombardo: "Our strategy is clear: consolidate the markets where we are already strong—Italy, Spain, and Portugal—while expanding into new markets such as the United Arab Emirates and India. We want to clearly demonstrate how CAMEC has succeeded, starting from a national dimension, in expanding beyond Italy to compete on a global scale. Along this path, the growth of CAMEC Iberica remains our priority for the immediate future, followed by manufacturing in Portugal, in our technologies."
